Lose Weight the Healthy Way: Change Your Lifestyle

Stop Short-Term Solutions

If you want to lose weight and keep it off, you’ve got to make permanent changes in your life. And guess what: you’re not going to be able to keep up your crash diet, and you’ll never get through those intense hour-long workouts for the rest of your life. As many as 80 percent of people who lose weight just gain it back. You don’t want that to be you.

Instead of being unrealistic and overzealous in your diet and exercise regimen, you need to reevaluate your entire lifestyle and see if it’s allowing you to be the person you want to be. You might need to change your hobbies, your belongings, and even your friends, but you will get permanent results.

Exercise You Can Handle

You don’t need the latest set of workout videos or that brand-new elliptical to get the exercise you need to take care of your body. More importantly, if you find yourself doing plyometrics five days a week, you are exercising too hard. Sure, you’re burning a lot of calories, but you’re likely putting your body under far more stress than it can handle. With that amount of stress, you won’t be able to keep up your exercise regimen, and you’ll likely to back to lazing on the couch all afternoon.

Don’t take on more than you can handle. Look for exercise that you’ll actually look forward to after work or the chores that fill your day. Make lighter exercise a routine.

Food You'll Actually Eat

Here’s the deal. Some diet food is gross and, worse, a pain to prepare. And the frozen diet foods in your grocery store are not going to do you any good. Sure, they’re easy to make, but do you really want to eat them? I didn’t think so.

Even relying on organic, natural foods may make your diet too hard to maintain. Let me be clear: you should be eating whole foods like this, but you shouldn’t choose the most complicated recipes you can find. If you’re constantly making dinners that require you to dirty up your entire kitchen and buy a lot of ingredients, you’ll get tired of your new diet fast. Don’t make that mistake.

A New, Healthy Lifestyle

You may abandon diets, and you may give up on ninety-day workouts, but if you change your lifestyle, you’ll be able to keep weight off. I know, I know. Easier said than done. But a healthy lifestyle is the best way to lose weight and feel like the person you want to be.

If you can find exercise you can manage and that you enjoy, and if you start making simple meals from healthy, natural ingredients, you’ll start seeing the results that you won’t get from intense exercise regimens or extreme diets. Though your weight loss may not be as rapid as you want, the weight will stay off much longer, and, most importantly, you can have a happy and healthy life.
